HORIKOSHI Tatsuhito received a scholarship in 2005 and graduated with a Master of Fine Art from the Tama Art University in 2010, with a major in painting. Since then annually, he has held solo exhibitions consecutively in Japan. The artist has exhibited in group exhibitions and international art fairs in France, Korea, Hong Kong, Taipei and Japan.
Working from memory and imagination, Horikoshi uses portrait painting as a medium to introspectively examine and reflect social dynamics. His characters are lucidly influenced by his lifelong exposure to manga, animation and illustration.
"I want my work to possess both a gentle quality as well as a revolutionary spirit.
The reasons I created this work had to do with the social conditions, the loneliness of modern people, as well as my own personal experiences.
The characters I draw express sorrow in some respects, but I had some complex and ambivalent ideas which were the primary impulse that pushed me to create this.
In that sense, this work also reflects who I am. One of the themes I continue to feature in my works is the combination of sorrow and stylishness. ”
